Friday Favorites

Is it weird that I am still SO happy it's Friday, even though I've been home all week? There is just something about the energy on Friday that makes me so excited for the weekend! Tonight, we have youth group, and then NOTHING ELSE planned except for church on Sunday morning. Ohhhhh glorious....

Tomorrow, hubby and I are planning on working a bit more on the baby's room (just a few more finishing touches!) and then I really want to go to a local salsa night, but I'm not sure how conducive my 36 weeks pregnant bump will be to salsa dancing. We might just enjoy a quiet night in or a movie! Either way, I'm super excited for the weekend.

I had so many favorite moments this week, it's hard to pick just a few!

1. Childbirth classes. One highlight of this week was attending our first of two childbirth classes! We went to our local hospital for the classes since the hospital we are delivering at was already full. But the class was so great and full of amazing info for both hubby and I!

2. Our 2 year anniversary! We celebrated our two year wedding anniversary on Wednesday, April 19th. I can't believe it's been 2 years since we got married! My husband took the day off and we went to our prenatal check up, then went to Huntington Gardens and frolicked in the pretty flowers! Followed by an awesome dinner at a restaurant by our house that we've been dying to try.

But the highlight of the anniversary was definitely the surprise Vasken planned for me. I woke up to petals of roses leading me downstairs to the kitchen. By each petal there was an index card of qualities he loves about me (my top love language is word of affirmation, so this made my heart explode), and the final card was a picture of eggs and bacon (we are true foodies). He also cooked me a pancake breakfast before our prenatal appointment. I've got a keeper, folks!

3. Strawberries. I have been all about the strawberries this week. Pretty sure I've gone through 4 cartons by myself. I really should just go get a big flat of them from the local farmer's stand we have. That's going on my to-do list for the weekend.

Screen Shot 2017-04-21 at 7.50.49 AM.png

4. Resting. Ok even though this isn't necessarily a favorite of mine this week, it is a concept that is growing on me. At our prenatal check up, Baby Emma was measuring a bit smaller than what my OB was comfortable with. She had caught up with her growth a few weeks ago, but is falling behind again, especially in the belly. So I am now going in for NST tests 2x/week (non stress tests for the baby) on top of weekly ultrasounds to check on her growth. My doctor also recommended that I take it easy and lay down more often throughout the day on my left side. He said walking is fine, but he definitely wants me to rest. So I have embraced some new Netflix/Amazon prime shows (thankful to friends for the suggestions!) and have parked myself on the couch for most of my days. I'm not on strict bedrest or anything, but I know that I have to slow down on my movements (our 3 story townhouse is activity enough, those stairs are getting tougher and tougher!) I plan on going on walks to enjoy the weather and resting; a balance that is OB-approved! :)

For now, I am finishing up an episode of the Royals while sipping on some coffee, then am headed to my first NST appointment! The rest of the day may consist of a mani/pedi, getting some work done at a Starbucks for my private clients, and of course, resting on the couch! I hope you all have a fabulous Friday! Share some of your favorite moments from the week in the comments below, I'd love to hear!

Pregnancy Update! Weeks 31-33

I can't believe we are in the 30s as far as my weeks of pregnancy! This whole shabang FLEW by and we are getting so close to meeting our baby girl! Here's the latest update and how Mama and Emma are doing!

Our baby shower was last week and we got the cutest clothes and blankets! It was so fun washing everything and getting ready for our baby girl!

Our baby shower was last week and we got the cutest clothes and blankets! It was so fun washing everything and getting ready for our baby girl!

 How far along are you?

33 weeks and 4 days!

Gender:

GIRL!!

How big is the baby?

She is a cauliflower blossom this week!

Total weight gain:

I am 12 lbs up from my pre-pregnancy weight! I'm finally gaining and as weird as it is to see the scale go up, I know it's for the best reason ever!

How am I feeling?

I am feeling a little more tired lately, but still have pretty good energy considering! Sleep has been so-so, heartburn has kept me up most nights but that is getting better too as baby is slowly dropping!

Maternity clothes?

All day every day! I am loving all the stretchy pants and leggings, it's going to be so hard to go back to real clothes!

Favorite workouts:

I have been doing Core de Force, which is Beachbody's MMA fighting/kickboxing program. I am loving it! I am going to start incorporating more walks and get back to my Country Heat workouts too. My type A personality loves following programs from beginning to end, and you best believe I will be doing that post baby (I already have the programs I want to do lined up once I am cleared!) But for now, I am so thankful I have access to all the Beachbody on Demand workouts and can jump back and forth with what my body feels best doing!

Stretch marks:

None and I hope it stays that way! I’ve been using bio oil and some Cocoa butter too! My belly is itchy so I just keep moisturizing!

Cravings:

PIZZA. Lately, all I want is pizza. I could eat it for each meal. Actually I just realized I had some last night, and have leftovers today for lunch, and will be having some tonight at church. Oops. Oh well! I am balancing out all the pizza with lots of vegetables and fruits and healthy fats! Oh and protein, which the doctors want me to focus on to support Emma's growth!

Sleep:

Not too great with all the heartburn and now frequent trips to the bathroom. But oh well, I am used to having sleep problems (I didn't sleep through the night till 4th grade apparently) so it's not a big deal to me.

What I miss:

Working out as intensely as I used to. With all the anxiety that comes along with pregnancy, I miss my intense workouts and my runs. But I know I will get back to those things eventually! For now, I am just grateful that I am still able to be active in some capacity! I also miss having more than 1 cup of coffee a day, even though I only used to drink one, it would be nice to have the option of two...or three...

What I am looking forward to:

I am looking forward to packing our hospital bag (gotta get on that soon) and being on MATERNITY LEAVE! I am ready to just be home and prepare for our baby! The doctor wants me off work between 35 and 36 weeks, and that is so soon!

Thank you all for your prayers as we move along in this pregnancy. We appreciate it more than you know! We feel very loved and I know Baby Emma feels loved too!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Recap: Week 1 of 21 day fix!

I can't believe I am one week down of doing the 21 day fix. And in my third trimester too! I'm feeling amazing and energized while doing this program, so I thought I'd share how my first week went!

IMG_0463.JPG

I started off the week with Total Body Cardio which is pretty much my favorite workout of them all! 28 mins of cardio intervals with weights leave you sweaty and feeling so accomplished at the end! Even modifying for pregnancy got me working up a sweat! The rest of the week's workouts were lower fix, cardio fix, and dirty 30 fix. Upper fix is done mostly lying on your back/with planks, which I can't do while preggers! So I did Body Beast arms instead (I love having access to all these different programs). Also, 21 day fix has Pilates and Yoga days, but since they have a lot of back and core work, I subbed those out with some Core de Force (Beachbody's martial arts workout), and Autumn's active maternity series. Having access to Beachbody on demand (basically Netflix for workouts!) makes it so easy to modify some things for pregnancy. I always always ALWAYS recommend my clients follow their programs from start to finish without modifications, but since I'm pregnant, I'm making some adjustments! I may even add some walks since the weather will be gorgeous, and rest days as I listen to my body and see what I need!

IMG_0477.JPG

Meal wise, I think I did pretty well! The first day doing the program, I had my gestational diabetes test. So I stick to protein all morning until I took the test in the afternoon, then had a big bowl of veggie green curry and brown rice for dinner!

IMG_0474.JPG

Breakfasts have consisted of spinach scrambles. I've been on an egg kick lately and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon! Eggs have so many vital nutrients that are healthy for pregnancy, so I'm eating them up!

IMG_0498.JPG

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that ground turkey meat is a weekly staple for our home. My husband loves it, it takes 10 minutes to cook up, and it's easy to prep at the beginning of week! So most of my lunches last week were turkey, rice, salad, and fruit!

IMG_0501.JPG

For dinner, I chopped up some chicken sausage and potatoes, then seasoned with some cajun seasoning! Here is the recipe, it's super simple to make and tastes great as leftovers!

Meals were delicious, workouts were on point, and I'd say I feel pretty motivated going into week 2! If you'd like to join me with this program, fill out this form and I will get in touch with you! There are spots still available for my March bootcamp that starts in a couple days, and we will be following this program and the meal plan! The accountability of these groups, plus the short workouts and easy to follow meal plan is what has kept time on track, so I highly recommend joining if you are interested! I'll be with you every step of the way!!

I hope you have a terrific Monday everyone!

Pregnancy: Weeks 24-26

I feel like SO much has changed since I last updated everyone on my pregnancy! I am getting bigger and bigger, but feeling so much better! Very thankful to God that my energy is back and I am feeling more like myself!

How far along are you?

26 weeks and 2 days

Gender:

GIRL!!

How big is the baby?

This week, our sweet baby is the size of a butternut squash, which seems HUGE to me!

Total weight gain:

I am finally 141! So I have gained 4 lbs since my pre-pregnancy weight of 137.

How am I feeling?

I'm feeling pretty good! I have a lot more energy now, just getting bigger and getting used to having a big belly!

Maternity clothes?

Yup!!! I'm loving maternity leggings, they are so comfortable! My husband jokes that I am not going to want to wear normal clothes once the baby comes. But I DO miss shopping for clothes and kind of can't wait to get back into normal clothing. But for now, comfort trumps all.

Favorite workouts:

Country Heat has been a lifesaver! I am streaming the workout on Beachbody on Demand (basically netflix for workouts!) and also get access to a million other programs as well! So I am doing Country Heat along with Beachbody's Active Maternity workout, and going on walks. I am so happy to be active again!

Stretch marks:

None and I hope it stays that way! I’ve been using bio oil and a “bump cream” I found on Amazon. I also just ordered some Cocoa butter too! My belly is itchy so I just keep moisturizing!

Cravings:

I am having fleeting cravings that don't last long, so I rarely give in. The other day I craved Frosted Flakes cereal (a childhood favorite that I haven't had for 10 years!) but an hour later, they sounded disgusting to me so I never go them. I am trying to choose healthy foods when possible, but also giving into cravings from time to time. Everything I eat will effect baby girl, so I want to give her the best options I can!

Food aversions:

Still not a fan of red meat, but everything else has been sitting well!

Sleep:

It is getting better some nights, then terrible other nights. I'm just rolling with the punches at this point!

What I miss:

Working out more intensely, clothes shopping, and more than 1 cup of coffee/day! Especially with the lack of sleep!

What I am looking forward to:

Our next ultrasound is tomorrow where the will measure her and make sure she is growing on track since we have a velementous cord insertion. We will be checking on her growth every 2 weeks which is kind of nice because we get to see baby girl every 2 weeks! We are praying she still keeps growing big and strong!

Thanks for reading and for your sweet comments and prayers for our baby! It's been so exciting to see all the changes happening to my body with pregnancy. It is truly is a miracle! We can't wait to finally meet you, baby girl!

Daily Manna: Bring on the Eats!

Good morning everyone! Can you believe it is already the end of January? I sure can't! This year is already flying by, and before we know it my husband and I will be welcoming our sweet baby girl to our family! I'm 25 weeks pregnant this week, so only a few short months left...we are so excited!

It's time for another daily manna post over here! I love doing these daily eats posts because it helps me share what I typically eat and hopefully motivates people to stay on track. BUT I also want to show that I am a real person and don't eat 100% clean 100% of the time. I nourish my body to the best of my ability, making sure I fill up on enough of the good stuff to balance out the treats!

So on this particular day, I woke up, did my country heat workout (I'm on week 3 of the program and loving it...so pregnancy-friendly) then whipped up breakfast!

2 eggs with fruit and a side of herb flatbread I made! This is called manayeesh and it's delicious! It DID give me heartburn after though...so I guess it didn't agree with my pregnancy! :( so sad...

I got hungry soon after breakfast, which has been happening on some days! Some days I am ravenous and other days I forget to eat...but I'm trying to stay on track as much a possible! Mid morning snacks included string cheese and chopped veggies!

I bought real carrots this week instead of baby carrots and oh my, they taste so much better! I came home from the store and peeled and cut them immediately so they are just as convenient as baby carrots, but so much tastier!

Lunch time came early as well since I was dealing with the hunger beast, so I chose to embrace it! Lentils and quinoa seasoned with garlic and cumin, and a yummy salad with greens, pecans, apples, tomatoes, and a sweet onion dressing!

After lunch snackage of banana with yummy almond butter, and some sweet potato chips when I got home!

For dinner, I whipped up some herb salmon with some veggies and potatoes! I had already cooked the potatoes in bulk Sunday (yay for meal prep!) so I just had to cook the salmon and sauté the veggies and we were good to go! I love easy weeknight dinners, and meal prep makes it possible!

And for a late night snack, my husband and I finished off some pineapple we had before I could snap a picture...so sorry! But it was delicious!!

It was a yummy day of eats, and I love that all of this followed my meal plan and kept me and my baby girl nourished and full! It feels SO good to put good food in our bodies! And you can do it too! The more good food you eat, the more good food you crave...trust me! ;) I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday and eat some yummy things too!

Weekly Meal Plan: January 23-29

Happy Monday everyone! It's been quite the weekend here in SoCal with all the rain we've had. But I love it! I'm not a fan of driving in the rain, but when I'm warm in my bed hearing the pitter-patter, I'm in heaven!

Last week was an amazing week for me! I felt like I was finally on track with my meals and workouts since before getting pregnant! Having a healthy pregnancy has always been important to me, but morning sickness + the curveballs that have been thrown at us during this pregnancy have made it difficult. But low impact workouts and nutritious foods are making a comeback!

I wrote last week about how I've been following the 21 day fix containers system again and it's been a lifesaver! It's made it SO easy to stay on track with my meals and make sure I'm getting ENOUGH food. I've gone up a few calorie brackets and added some containers based on how my body is responding. My goal is NOT to lose weight right now, which is why adjusting the meal plan is a-ok with me. But, if you are using this plan to lose weight, I'd say trust the plan and don't adjust things! See how your body feels and go from there! :)

FullSizeRender.jpg

Here is my general break down of containers:

6 green (vegetables)

3 purple  (fruits)

4 red (proteins)

4 yellows (carbs)

2 blue (healthy fats)

1 orange (dressings)

6 tsp (nut butters, oils, etc)

I've been feeling so much more energized and nourished following this meal plan, and that's saying a lot since most of this pregnancy I've been pretty exhausted! Meals are delicious and satisfying, and I'm starting to crave healthier things...win-win!

So here are my meal ideas for this week! Most are simple and easy because I am not about complicating healthy eating! The simpler you make it, the more likely you'll follow through!

Breakfast:

Spinach scrambles with some type of carb: granola, pancakes, toast

IMG_9845.JPG

Oats with berries and peanut butter

Greek yogurt parfaits (I really can't stand Greek yogurt and it usually gives me tummy aches, but I want to see if I can handle a little bit of the non-fat kind in the mornings for some extra protein!)

Lunch:

Turkey taco meat w/rice and salad

Leftovers from...

Dinner:

Whole wheat spaghetti w/turkey meatballs & roasted broccoli

Stuffed peppers w/beans and rice (recipe coming soon!)

Tilapia w/stir fried veggies & potatoes

**We also have some dinners out planned this week, but I still plan on sticking to my meal plan!

Workout wise, I'm on week 2 of country heat and loving it! It's fun and low impact which is just what the doctor ordered. I'm going for a check up tomorrow and I'm going to ask if I can do some light strength training for my upper body too, just so I don't lose my muscle! I've found some seated arm workouts on you tube that seem doable, but I'll keep y'all posted!

I'm ready for another successful week! Are you? If you have trouble making meal plans and following through, my door is always open! Click on the "contact me" button above to get in touch! I'm also currently taking clients for my February Faith & Fit challenge, which will focus on healthy eating, how God can help us with our healthy eating goals, and how we can honor God with our health and fitness journeys!

Here's to a wonderful Monday and a great start to the week, friends! :)

Pregnancy: Weeks 21-23

The weeks are flying by over here, and both my husband and I are in shock of how quickly my belly is growing lately!

IMG_9636.large.JPG

 How far along are you?

23 weeks and 3 days!

Gender:

GIRL!!

How big is the baby?

This week, our sweet baby is the size of a bunch of grapes!

Total weight gain:

I'm finally at my pre-pregnancy weight! I was 137 when we got pregnant, then went down to 130, now back up to 137! Finally eating again and enjoying my food!

How am I feeling?

I'm feeling pretty good! I have a lot more energy now and almost forget that I am pregnant except when my belly gets in the way!

Maternity clothes?

Yup!!! The pants are a lifesaver!

Favorite workouts:

I actually just started a brand new program, Country Heat! The doctor wants me to do walking and light exercise, and this is a line dancing program that is perfect for my pregnancy right now!

IMG_9785.JPG

Stretch marks:

None and I hope it stays that way! I’ve been using bio oil and a “bump cream” I found on Amazon. Hopefully they continue to help!

Cravings:

No cravings lately just HUNGER! And then getting full too fast :( for a while my big craving was goldfish crackers but it isn't as strong now! I've been following my old meal plan (the 21 day fix container system, just increased in calories!) and I've been feeling so much healthier and craving healthier things!

IMG_9744.JPG

Food aversions:

I still have aversions sometimes to red meat, but everything else is sounding good to me!

Sleep:

Terrible! I have no comments about this haha

What I miss:

Energy, working out, and more than 1 cup of coffee/day!

What I am looking forward to:

Our next ultrasound is Tuesday where the will measure her and make sure she is growing on track since we have a velementous cord insertion. We will be checking on her growth every 2 weeks which I'm actually looking forward to because we will get to see her and make sure she is on track with her growth! Grow baby grow!

We are so thankful to God for this sweet baby and praying she keeps growing big and strong and keeps kicking mommy!

Pregnancy: Weeks 6-9

By now, we would have probably announced that we are pregnant! My hubby and I are so excited to be welcoming little Baby Verano in May 2017! We can’t wait for our little addition and for the new adventure of parenthood!

IMG_8781.JPG

I wanted to start blogging my way through the pregnancy but made these posts private at first. But now that the cat is out of the bag, here they are! I plan on blogging throughout the pregnancy on the same questions (found these on another Mama blog and loved them!) to see all the changes! This is my first pregnancy and I am excited/nervous for what is to come!

How far along are you?

I am 9 weeks and 2 days today!

Gender:

Don’t know yet…not sure if we will find out but we are leaning towards yes!

How big is the baby?

According to my trusty app, the baby is the size of a pecan this week

Total weight gain:

I have actually lost 6 lbs since my pre-pregnancy weight. Hating food can do that to you…

How am I feeling?

SO nauseous. The nausea started at the end of week 5 and is only getting worse by the day. I never want to eat, and even talking about food makes me want to gag. I haven’t actually thrown up yet (thank God) and I hope it stays that way! But food is definitely not my friend right now, and eating has become a chore.

Maternity clothes?

Yep! I know it is still SUPER early, but no one ever tells you about how BLOATED you are during the first trimester. I know my “bump” is mostly bloat, but it was enough to make regular clothes very uncomfortable for me. So this week I started wearing my new maternity black pants to work! WOOO!

Favorite workouts:

We found out very early on that we were expecting, so those first couple weeks before morning sickness (more like all day sickness) hit, I was doing some circuit training and light weight lifting. But ever since the nausea has started I have only been able to go on one walk and on gym session on the elliptical. I always saw myself as having a very active pregnancy, but between the fatigue and nausea, I have only been wanting to rest. I am hoping to get back into a regular workout routine soon!

Stretch marks:

None and I hope it stays that way!

Cravings:

Nothing, absolutely nothing. OR I will have a fleeting craving (biscuits, Armenian cheese, Chinese food) and then have an aversion to it by the time my husband orders it or I make the food I was craving. It’s quite sad.

Food aversions:

Basically everything, especially raw vegetables (salads…blegh) and meat/animal protein.

Sleep:

I am sleeping pretty terribly actually. I am tossing and turning all night, and I don’t even have a belly yet. Hopefully I can get some rest soon!

What I miss:

Working out 100%, eating healthier (why is it that junk food is the only thing that helps with nausea?) and COFFEE, even though the doctor did clear me for one caffeinated beverage per day. I have only been having coffee or tea once a week since we found out.

What I am looking forward to:

Seeing the baby at our ultrasounds, getting bigger and watching my body change, and feeling the baby move!

Well, that’s all for now! Stay tuned for more updates! :)

Pregnancy: Weeks 10-12

Week 10-12 have flown by, and I can’t believe I am almost to my second trimester! Being a first time mama, everything about this pregnancy has been so new and unexpected! I can’t wait to see what the second trimester brings!

IMG_8800.JPG

How far along are you?

12 weeks and 4 days today!

Gender:

Don’t know yet…not sure if we will find out but we are leaning towards yes!

How big is the baby?

The baby is the size of a tangerine or a large apricot! Using a variety of apps now ;) love seeing how much Baby V is growing each week!

Total weight gain:

I still haven’t been able to gain weight and am down 6 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. Everyone is saying this will get better soon, so I’m trying not to worry!

How am I feeling?

The nausea eased up a little at the end of week 11, then came back full force the beginning of week 12. I’m feeling a bit better today which is a good sign. I’m hoping for more good days than bad days in the coming weeks, especially with Thanksgiving coming!

Maternity clothes?

Still just my pair of work pants. I’m lucky that the styles this season are a lot of loose and long sweaters so I’ve been able to wear those over leggings. It’s also been quite warm this week so I was able to wear some dresses too. This one made my bump very noticeable!

Favorite workouts:

I am loving at-home workouts lately. I spent some time as a Beachbody coach last year and have accumulated a ton of workouts, plus have access to some maternity workouts as well. Most of them have been 30-35 mins long and included light weight lifting. I want to start walking regularly too, but it has been so easy to just workout at home especially when I’m not 100% well in the morning with nausea. Hopefully I’ll be able to add some walking in soon!

Stretch marks:

None and I hope it stays that way! I’ve been using bio oil and a “bump cream” I found on Amazon. Hopefully they help!

Cravings:

The only craving I’ve had is our family’s yogurt soup recipe! I craved it late one night and after talking to my mom, my aunts, and my grandma, I made the recipe and it was delicious! Sadly, that has been my own craving…

Food aversions:

Basically everything, especially raw vegetables (salads…blegh) and meat/animal protein. If it is just put in front of me, I can usually stomach it. Unless it is a salad or Mexican food (my nemesis right now). But if I think about what I want to eat, I get grossed out even more and have a harder time choosing.

Sleep:

No change here! Still sleeping terribly and tossing and turning. My OB says this is normal, so I guess I’ll just have to deal!

What I miss:

Same as before…working out 100%, eating healthier (why is it that junk food is the only thing that helps with nausea?) and COFFEE, even though the doctor did clear me for one caffeinated beverage per day. I have only been having coffee or tea once a week since we found out. I also miss my clear skin. My face has been exploding with break outs and it is really getting to me. I used to use retin-A but since that’s a big no-no (it can cause birth defects), I’m just tying to keep my face clean, use minimal make-up, and not stress too much about it.

What I am looking forward to:

Same as before! Seeing the baby at our ultrasounds, getting bigger and watching my body change, and feeling the baby move!

Well, that’s all for now! Stay tuned for more updates! :)
